Yep...pizza comes at a price. I also had a bowl of minestrone soup for a late dinner which was probley loaded with sodium. I just figured I would go out with a bang yesterday since I rarely get a chance to get italian food from this old haunt.
So I woke up this morning to the sound of a damn smoke detector chirping as it does when it is low on batteries. 4:30 a.m.? No problem. It wasn't in the immediate room so it wasnt terribly loud...but DAMN! Those things are designed to create the most intense annoyance from no matter where they are located. Stupid safety devices and crap.
I persevered as long as I could. I didn't want to get out from under the covers because it was pretty cold, but even the unheated air of an empty house at 5:30 in the morning wasn't a match for the incessant intermittent chirp of that demon smoke alarm.
Out from the warmth of the down covers and into the frosty air with no quick fix available. Turns out the vaulted ceilings are in cahoots with the smoke alarms. So off to the garage to get a ladder. Oh yes...the crisp early morning air against my chicken skin and the cold concrete on my bare feet was exactly what I needed at that moment. Jumping in a lake would have been no more shocking.
I grabbed a regular 8 foot ladder and set it up in the hallway and climbed to the top and just as I was about to touch the smoke alarm, I heard the chirp again. Dang it! It's a different one! I look around for another and spot one in the entry way, but this ceiling is much higher. So back to the garage for a bigger ladder. Soooo coooold...even colder than the first trip for the first ladder.
Ladder in place and I am up it and what do you know?! Chirpitty chirp...from somewhere else!! What the hell?! I waited a minute or two. Still and quiet and freezing. Chirp. Ahhh...got you now you bastard. Down with you!
Not sure why the hell there needs to be 3 smoke detectors all within 15 feet of each other in an area that is not separated by any doors at all...but somebody figured that was the way to go. Add another 5 feet to the area and there are 4.
Mission accomplished. Now time to treat the mild hypothermia which has set in.
After a hot shower, I proceeded to console myself with a plate of hot cakes and natural maple syrup.
Just a perfect Sunday morning.
Oh yeah, then I did Kenpo later on.
And the pizza weigh in....
